Product Description
FINAL INVENTORY! For Now.
This is our most popular winding check. Limited availability in the core sizes; greater availability at the ends of the spectrum. Stock up now if you want to secure a stack of these hexagonally machined checks. I still polish each one to soften the machining marks so there’s no discount available on low quantities.
SPECIAL DISCOUNT PRICING: If you want to buy a quantity of 100+ in mixed sizes, and if you are willing to have me ship them raw and unpolished, then I’ll cut the price down to $10.95 each. For the serious rodmaker, this is a great deal, and each check will only take you a minute or less to polish to perfection…hit each facet on the top, then the bottom, then the visible exterior side…it’s a six count each time so you don’t go to seven and overpolish one facet…then buff more ONLY if you can see machine marks and stick to that six count so everything stays even…fair curves (or softened facets) are defined by the eye, not by the measuring tool. It’s methodical and it’s quick.
This is the real deal. Not machined as a round check, and then blasted into shape like other hexagonal checks; ours are actually machined from solid bar stock and individually hand polished into a handsome final product, with the best fit and finish you will find anywhere in the industry. For these parts, the mirror polish is the Bright finish (Natural is not available – you wouldn’t like them if we didn’t polish them…too edgy).
To determine the proper hexagonal check size, use the average of the three corner-to-corner measurements and order the same 64th size; order up for any partial size measurements, e.g., 19.2/64 means you need a 20/64 check, unless you want to file out the ID to open up the 19/64 check. Don’t let a tight check constrict your blank. It’s better to pad beneath a slightly large check using a single layer of fine black silk, which will be invisible once you add a short decorative wrap in front of the winding check.
Let us Emphasize: Measure Corner-to-Corner … these are the single most mis-ordered products we sell.
PLEASE ORDER CAREFULLY AS THE SIZE OPTIONS VARY. ALWAYS MEASURE CANE RODS CORNER-TO-CORNER WHEN ORDERING WINDING CHECKS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE DESIGN OF THE WINDING CHECK IS CIRCULAR OR HEXAGONAL.
