Product Description

FINAL INVENTORY!  We’re very low in most configurations.

OK, I’m caving as we enter the final weeks.  These are now on sale.

If you know and love them, please stock up on a few while you’ve got the chance.  We will not be inventorying these or any comparable product again.

BE WISE: In the comments section of your order, please list ALL FIVE colors in your order of preference (first choice being the color you actually order…don’t confuse our simple minds by ordering Nutmeg and then saying your first choice is Crimson).  Thanks for helping us to help you.

Hey Rod Makers:   7’6″ 3/2 is sold out in all colors.  6’6″ 2/2 is sold out in all colors.  No more 7’6″ 2/1.  No more 8’6″ 3/2.  No more 8’0″ 3/2. No more 9’6″ 3/2. If you want a few of these soft, well-designed rod sacks, now is the time to order.  They’re getting scarcer by the day.  Now three are sold out.

The 7’6″ 2/2 format – our most popular! – is sold out except for Crimson.  If you order ANY color in this format, you’ll receive Crimson.  This is the coding ‘error’ built into this page…we can’t delist any color in a given size without delisting them all.

NOTE:  We are no longer producing these custom rod sacks.  When you order, please use the comments section of the order form, or an immediate email, to advise us of your second and third color choices for a given configuration.  Please understand, if you order and send us an advisory email even fifteen minutes later, it’s entirely possible the rod sack will already be picked and packed.  We don’t dawdle if we’re at the packing bench when non-custom orders come into the shop.  If you do not share your alternate color choices, and if your primary color choice is out of stock, we will ship you a rod sack of our color choice.  Currently we have hundreds of sacks on shelves (mostly in Hunter, Crimson, & Carbon) but some are already gone in specific sizes and/or colors.

These are the sacks we designed & originally sewed in-house for GW rods before we took production to a local seamstress who is in possession of an exceptionally precise needle. She does a wonderful job. Each sack is cut from soft, cotton flannel that we wash & pre-shrink on our premises. The slots are wide enough to allow rod sections to slide in & out smoothly, but narrow enough to eliminate sloppy, oversized bags with enough extraneous material to sew shawls for a herd of hamsters (does anyone know the correct, non-alliterative term of venery for massed hamsters?). More importantly, the soft flannel truly protects your rod’s finish from abrasion – something that neither thin nylon nor stiff duck canvas can do. rod sacks

As with all of our products, you get what you pay for, and we make products whose quality stands in stark contrast to the run-of-the- mill products everyone has grown to accept as the standard of quality. We aim to raise the bar and, by doing so, to improve the quality and marketability of our clients’ rods and the presentation of those rods. At GW, we make a living because there are plenty of folks who do have sincere concern for aesthetics, elegance, presentation, and all the other ancillary aspects of good tackle, which, though they must follow on the heels of performance, are nonetheless of vital importance to a rodmaker’s reputation.

Sized for cane rods, these sacks are slightly long for most graphite rods because they are designed to accommodate a rod with a ferrule plug. 1/1 sacks are for one-piece rods. 2/1 sacks are two-slot sacks for two-piece, one-tip rods. 2/2 sacks are three-slot sacks for two-piece, two-tip rods. 3/1 sacks are three slot sacks for three-piece, one-tip rods. 3/2 sacks are four slot sacks for three-piece, two-tip rods.

Each rod sack features a fold-over flap to help secure rod sections. You can add a tie if you feel this is necessary (bias tape or nylon cord both work). However, not having a tie makes it far easier to slide a rod into a snug tube with less risk to delicate tip sections.

Beware the color photos! While self-evidently superior to black and white images, you can’t take the apparent colors in these web photos with anything less than a grain of salt. Between the photos, the image processing, and the browsers, the colors do change when compared to the items that were selected as samples for the catalog. With rod sacks, let us assure you that the Carbon is simply black; not even our technology can muddle that up. Camel is a light Khaki. Crimson is bright, like – I almost hate the comparison even if it is accurate – Mr. Claus before he sets off on Christmas eve.  Hunter is a deep green; think evergreens, not a springtime oak.  Nutmeg is a rich, medium brown.  Next, you have to beware of dye lots.  This flannel changes discernibly from bolt to bolt, even though we do our best be consistent in purchasing from the same manufacturer when it’s available.  Carbon excepted, when you’re making a small group of rods and need identical sacks, please order your sacks at the same time and alert us that you want sacks from the same dye lot.  We’ll do our best to accommodate from stock, or we may plead your patience and request that you take delivery from our next batch.  Even if you order a single sack, we may email you to let you know you have a choice of waiting for the next batch (arriving monthly) or swapping to an in-stock color.  Despite our best efforts to maintain a sufficient inventory, color popularity seems to come and go in waves and that can deplete our bins of a specific color, but rarely of all the colors in a given configuration.
