The ACW Classic Wide Series: Mint nickel silver bezels snugged around rock rings freshly cut, yet with a broader design harking back to the era of our angling forebears. These bold, throw-back stones will elevate your rodmaking, imparting confidence to you and your clients, ensuring more fish are caught – and released! The photo gallery shows guides crafted with both our first generation frames and our new Hydro-Welded High Frames…the latter are easy to discern as they have a more sharply pinched apex at the tip of each wing on the frame.
Now that we’ve got our Cradle Frames available in the new Hydro-Welded™ Frames, these H-W frames are the standard for the Classic Wide guides. Choose either the High Frame, Medium Frame, or Cradle Frame. The High Frames are sharply pinched at the apex of the wings and the wings themselves are tall and narrow. The Medium Frames are also pointed at the apex of the wings, but the wings are much wider and don’t reach up as far as on the High Frames. Both High & Medium Frames have fairly narrow feet with a pointed toe. The Cradle Frame features a rounded apex at the wing tip, shorter, blunter wings, a height that is more comparable to the Medium Frame than the High Frame, and elegantly formed feet that are slightly wider at the toe than where they join the wings of the frame. The Cradle Frames are a personal favorite, but they are more time consuming to craft because the feet require more steps to shape prior to polishing.
Wire weight is tricky business. When I craft guides I want the average frame to pair well with the size and width of the stone, and to pair up with traditional expectations. In most cases, the wire I use for any guide feature a wide stone ring will be one size heavier than for a comparable narrow ring guide. This means the Heavy Duty “Guide” Weight Frames are stocky indeed. When someone orders one of the heavy frames, I’ll get a picture posted.
